    • 2024 Shootout Wrap Up
      Forty teams played in the Shootout at Happy Canyon Vineyards Piocho Polo Field in Santa Ynez for the 2024 Shootout.  Teams were able to get in two of the three days of play using Friday and Saturday but a flood level storm chased everyone out before Sunday games could start. Forty-seven games were completed but twenty-three games could not be played.
       
      In WCLA D1 four teams finished undefeated for the unofficial tie for first place. They were Virginia (3-0), ASU (2-0), San Diego State (2-0) and UC Berkeley (2-0).  In WCLA D2 it were six teams escaping unscathed. They were Concordia (3-0), Cal State San Marcos (2-0), Montana State (2-0), Stanford (2-0), Cal Poly B (2-0) and Cal State Fullerton (2-0). The next Santa Barbara Shootout is February 7 - 9,2025. Teams are encouraged to keep in mind when they make their mutual matchups that it is best to play one game a day on each day of the tournament, Friday through Sunday.

    • Shootout Sunday Games Were Cancelled
      Shortly before noon on Saturday the announcement had to be made to cancel Sunday games for everyone’s safety.  Evacuation orders were in place for areas of Santa Barbara County teams would have to drive through to leave Santa Ynez and all of Santa Barbara County was eventually declared a state of emergency.The rain on the fields wasn’t the only issue and while maybe everyone could have dealt with the wind part of the storm it was the rain on mudslide prone areas surrounding the adjacent road areas that was the clincher.  Up until a few days before the Shootout it wasn’t the atmospheric river in the forecast that ended up coming to be.  The storm had such a scope that alternate turf facilities up and down Southern California were not allowing play on Sunday either so those options didn't yield any space for make-up games. 
       
       
      The Shootout will put in a claim on the weather cancellation insurance purchased for the event to provide partial entry fee refunds to teams based on games missed.

    • Division News
      The Santa Barbara Shootout offered WCLA and WCLO divisions as well as an Open Divison for post-collegiate teams for 2024.  WCLA teams signed up in force but no Open or WCLO teams signed up. We will offer Open, WCLA and WCLO divisions again for 2025.
