    • Shootout 2018
      The next Santa Barbara Shootout will be February 16 - 18, 2018 at the Santa Barbara Polo Club. The 2017 event was flooded out during Tropical Storm Lucifer. Great losses were experienced on all sides and the facility owner, ERG Polo Fields, did not refund the $25,0000 facility fee nor did he honor a credit toward a future use. Then he sold the property so there's nothing more can be done about it.
       
      Plans for the future include the following.
      1. Move high school divisions to an earlier weekend. High school teams may play in the Santa Barbara Winter Showdown. The next one is February 10 - 11, 2018 at the Santa Barbara Polo Club.
      2. The SB Shootout is now a WCLA only team event for WCLA DI and DII teams. A smaller number of teams will be accommodated and it will be more the size of the U.S. Lacrosse WCLA Tournament in May.
      3. With a smaller number of teams comes some flexibility if there's need for backup artificial turf fields. If it's not a 12 field event then it won't need 12 backup turf fields. 
      4. The new SB Shootout entry fee will include tournament insurance that covers expenses and not just medical liability. Different plan options, costs and coverages are under review.  Even though the chances of another storm like Tropical Storm Lucifer are slim such an occurrence will now be covered.

      Refund News

      March 11, 2017 - The last round of preliminary partial refund checks have been check request processed through Bank of America bill pay. The delivery date for this last round shows as 3/16/17. That means every team will have received their pro-rated refund by this date, give or take a day or two for some campus mail delivery delays. These are business checks and have an expiration date. Please deposit them into your club / team account as soon as you get them. If you don't have your partial refund check by 3/20/17 please send a note to admin@sbshootout.com. See information below for the method used for calculating this first round of partial refund checks. 

      March 7, 2017 - Unplayed game fee refunds are partway through processesing. Credit card payment refunds were processed first. Those had a 180 day window to be able to refund back to the original credit card used for payment. Check refunds are being sent in the order the mailing address information was submitted by teams. These are coming via Bank of America bill pay system so please open all mail until you receive your check to make sure it's not confused with junk mail.  There was a short delay getting to processing these during negotiations with the estate owner for the $25,000 venue to be refunded. The ideas was to pass a share of that value to the teams right away.  That was unsuccessful and we're back to having it as a credit for a future summer event. Once the $25,000 turns into funds from the next event it will be used to send an additional refund.  This is complicated further with the estate up for sale and we don't know who might be the new owner if it's purchased. 

      February 21, 2017 - The after the event math has started to see how much each team can be refunded.  The $25,000 venue rental fee is non-refundable and about $21,000 spent on things like portable toilets, trash cans, backstop fencing, Santa Barbara County permit fees, water testing, field lining, tenting, table rental and injury ice are not retrievable.  When the calculations are completed refunds will be issued via check if the entry fee was paid by check and by credit card refund if the entry fee was paid by credit card.

      February 18, 2017 @ 1:45pm - Polo Fields are still closed. Drove over to walk them and spun out, almost getting stuck, in the mud in the parking lot.

      February 18, 2017 @ 10:35am - There will be no games possible on Sunday or Monday at the grass fields. We are working our way down the list of possible turf facilities and will try to get all teams that have flown in a game.  The few local turf options have been asked and all were booked or we did not get a response.  Outreach extends in a 3 hour drive radius at this time.  We are ready to send out referees and trainers as well as pay any turf rental fees.

      February 18, 2017 @ 8:28am - Fields inspected again just in case anything possible before next rain starts.  It is a swamp so this option is no option.  Water is still running down from the hill above and seeping out onto the fields.

      February 18, 2017 @ 7:09am - There are no games today.  If no turf field administrators free up their turfs of existing reservations there will be no games on Sunday. 

      February 17, 2017 @ 7:54pm - Toro Canyon has flooded with run off from the hills above the facility and part of the parking lot is making its way down onto the fields.  Lambert Road is the only way into the facility and it is also flooded.  This decision is not made lightly but it is made in the best interest of your safety & welfare.  We can't run the event at this facility and we're back to trying to set up some games at turf fields.  Please stay tuned and check back here and on the schedule before you got to bed and when you wake up.

      Oversize Vehicle Parking 

      February 17, 2017 @ 3:58pm - The path between the oversize parking area and warmup field area and the game fields has washed out.  No parking is possible at 200 Toro Canyon Road and there's no access between the warm up field and the game field.
