Carpinteria, CA (2/17/19) - The Santa Barbara Shootout finished on Sunday with play on six pristine grass at once with the last round of games starting at 2:30pm. Friday of the Shootout saw teams on artificial turf at San Marcos High School and UCSB. Saturday and Sunday the players enjoyed the springy Bermuda hybrid grass imported from Argentina by the polo club in 1927. Many thanks to San Marcos High School and UCSB for renting their three turf fields to us on Friday. Double thanks to the Santa Barbara Polo Club for their great venue and playing surface that allowed us to play out the rest of the weekend there.
Utah (4-0), UC Berkeley (3-0) and BYU (3-0) finished undefeated in the Air Division for WCLA D1 teams. Cal State San Marcos and Utah State both finished 3-0 in the Mountain Division for WCLA D2 teams. It were the Matadors from Cal State Northridge who won the single round robin Ocean Division for Provisional teams with a 2-1 overall record. Finally, in the inaugural Pocono Division the Sea Queens avenged an earlier 3-9 pool play loss to Kansai U20 with a 5-4-first place game rematch success. Standings here on this site set in order of least goals allowed but please note it's arbitrary as teams played different numbers of games based on preset mutual matchup agreements.
The next Santa Barbara Shootout is February 14 - 16, 2020.
