McKenzie Rafferty

McKenzie Rafferty took over as the women's lacrosse head coach in August of 2023. She arrived in Lynchburg with seven years of coaching experience serving as the head coach at Florida Institute of Technology for five seasons prior to Lynchburg.

She took over at the helm of Division-II Florida Tech in 2019, and during her tenure in Melbourne, the Panthers boasted five USA Lacrosse All-Americans, 12 all-conference winners, and a CoSIDA All-American. Rafferty and the Panthers spent 32 weeks either ranked inside the top-25 or receiving votes in the IWLCA DII poll and were ranked as high as 10th in the country on three occasions.

Rafferty's teams consistently earned spots on the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Squad and produced over 100 Dean's List winners.

Prior to her half-decade at Florida Tech, Rafferty spent two seasons in Denver, Colo. with Regis University. The Rangers went 34-8 with Rafferty on staff making two trips to the Division II national tournament. In 2018, Rafferty helped lead Regis to a national semifinal appearance. She coached several highly-decorated players including two-time All-Americans Sarah Myres and Jada Bonner. Myers is Regis' all-time leader in points with 341, and Bonner is the program's leader in ground balls with 188. Rafferty coached under 18-year head coach Sarah Kellner at Regis. Kellner is a five-time coach of the year in the conference and was the 2019 IWLCA coach of the year in the region.

As a four-time letter winner and standout student-athlete at Division-I University of Delaware, Rafferty helped lead the Blue Hens to multiple Coastal Athletic Association (formerly the Colonial Athletic Association) playoff appearances and helped elevate the program into the national rankings. Playing in 44 games, Rafferty earned All-CAA academic team honors four times, was a National College Athlete Honor Society member, nominated for CoSIDA All-American awards, and was named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll in 2015 and 2016.

The Chester Springs, Pa. native was a US Lacrosse, Brine, and Under Armour All-American player from Downingtown East High School in Downingtown, Pa. She has helped grow the game she loves internationally by obtaining experience playing and coaching abroad through a program called Global Players. Through the program, Rafferty coached and played overseas in countries such as Switzerland, Austria, and Lichtenstein.

She earned her Bachelor's of Science degree with an Early Childhood Education major and minors in Coaching Science, Disabilities Studies, Human Development, and Family Studies from University of Delaware in 2016. She acquired her Master's degree in Sport & Performance Psychology from the University of Denver in 2018.
