
Chesapeake Invitational 2025: Lacrosse Tournament Rulebook
Team Composition
Grad Year Divisions: Teams are recommended to consist of players from the same graduation year.
Combination Teams: Combination teams (teams made up of players from multiple graduation years) are allowed in all divisions. These teams must play in the division corresponding to the oldest player on the team.
Combination teams must include “Combo” in their team name for clarity.
Field Regulations
Field Size: All games will be played on regulation full-size lacrosse fields (both turf and natural grass).
Game Timing
Game Duration: Each game will consist of two 19-minute halves with a 2-minute halftime.
Time Between Games: Teams will have a 5-minute break between games.
Clock Management: A central running clock will be used for all games. There will be no time-outs or stoppage for any reason.
2025 US Lacrosse Rules
Applicable Divisions: All teams in the Chesapeake Invitational (graduation years 2027-2034 will follow the 2025 US Lacrosse high school rules, with the exceptions and modifications listed below.
Rule Modifications & Exceptions
Major Foul at the End of Half/Game: If a half or game ends due to a defensive major foul inside the Critical Scoring Area (CSA), play will be extended for a free position. The half/game will officially end after the free position and the conclusion of the scoring attempt that results from the foul.
Modified Checking (2033-2034 Divisions): Checking Restrictions
Teams in the 2033 and 2034 divisions will follow modified checking rules: A player may check the opponent’s cross only if the entire cross is below shoulder level. Checks must be in a downward direction and away from the player’s body.
Position to Check: When a player is in position to legally check the cross, a 3-second count will begin. This indicates that the player with the ball could be legally checked if full checking were allowed.
Tournament Conduct and Expectations
Sportsmanship: All players, coaches, and spectators are expected to uphold the values of good sportsmanship and fair play throughout the tournament.
Rule Enforcement: Officials will enforce all rules consistently across all divisions and grad years. Any concerns or disputes should be directed to tournament staff or referees.
Safety: Player safety is paramount. All equipment must meet US Lacrosse standards, and any violations of safety protocols will result in penalties or disqualification.
