MK Geratowski

MK Geratowski is in her tenth season as head coach of the Yellow Jacket women's lacrosse program in 2022-23. She holds positions as the Assistant Athletic Director and the Senior Woman Administrator for the R-MC Athletic Department handling all NCAA Compliance.


In her nine seasons in Ashland, Geratowski has led the Yellow Jackets to 87 wins, 52 of those in conference, and the team has been to the ODAC Championship game five times. R-MC has won a post season game in each of her seasons at the helm. She has coached 47 All-ODAC players, including two Rookies of the Year and two Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Geratowski has mentored 17 IWLCA All-Region selections, and in 2017 Kristin Patrick ‘17 was named the IWLCA Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year nationally. In 2015, the Yellow Jackets tied the R-MC record for wins in a season with 14 and Geratowski was selected as the ODAC, VaSID, and R-MC Hugh Stephens Coach of the Year.


Under Geratowski’s leadership, the Yellow Jackets have been awarded off the field as well. The team has been an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad in each year that the award has been presented since her arrival in Ashland, as well as having numerous members of the team named to the ODAC All-Academic team and IWLCA Honor Roll. The team has also been the recipient of the IWLCA Team Community Awareness Award in 2014, 2015, and 2021, as well as the inaugural Randolph-Macon Athletics Community Service Award in the spring of 2022 for their work in the community.


Geratowski’s Yellow Jackets have also printed their names in the R-MC record books during her tenure. In 2018 Alex Lightfoot ‘18 broke the record for career assists with 169. She also holds the number two and number 4 spots in the record book for assists in a season with 59 and 49 respectively. Many of those assists were sent to Alicia Hsieh ‘18 who holds the number three spot for career points with 299, the number two spot for career goals with 255, and the number two spot for goals in a season with 74. The top five for career draw controls are all held by players who were mentored by Geratowski with Jenelle Whitman ’16 holding the top spot with 374. Whitman also holds the top two spots for draw controls in a season with 145 and 107 respectively. On the defensive side of the ball, Susie Snee ’17, the 2017 Susan DeNagy award winner for top female student-athlete at R-MC, holds the number two spot for career caused turnovers with 92 as well as the number two spot for career draw controls with 253.


Prior to her arrival in Ashland, Geratowski spent three seasons as an assistant coach in the Commonwealth of Virginia. In 2013, she was the offensive and recruiting coordinator at the College of William and Mary. The previous year, Geratowski served as offensive coordinator at in conference rival, Washington and Lee University. For the 2011 campaign, she worked as a defensive assistant at the University of Richmond. During the 2010 season, Geratowski was the defensive coordinator at Connecticut College. Prior to her collegiate coaching career, Geratowski sent a year abroad coaching at a girl’s private school in Preston, England.


Geratowski has stepped out of her coaching role both nationally and on campus, serving as the tournament director for the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship on Day Field in 2019. She also served as the tournament director for the NCAA Division III Ashland Softball Regionals in 2017 and 2022. She will serve as the chair of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Committee for the 2022-23 academic year, a committee she has been a part of since 2019. Geratowski also served as a member of the IWLCA Board of Directors from 2018 to 2021 and the NCAA Regional Advisory Committee from 2016-2019.


A four-year standout at Elmira College in both lacrosse and ice hockey, Geratowski was a member of the All-Sportsmanship Team in the Empire 8 for lacrosse in 2008 as well as serving as a team captain and being named team MVP. As a member of the nationally ranked ice hockey team, Geratowski won the Coach’s Award in 2005-06 and served as a student assistant coach in 2007-08 helping her team to two ECAC Championships and three NCAA appearances, including two trips to the Frozen Four.


In 2008, Geratowski earned a Bachelor of Science in English Literature and Secondary Education from Elmira. She earned a Master of Education in Sports Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2011, serving on the alumni board from 2017-2019.


Geratowski resides in Mechanicsville, VA with her husband, Penn Stephenson.

Emerson Foster

Head coach MK Geratowski and Randolph-Macon women’s lacrosse has announced the hiring of Emerson Foster as an assistant coach on staff.


Foster spent the past season at Susquehanna University as an assistant coach where she specialized in coaching midfield and defense. She now returns to the ODAC one year removed from a four-year lacrosse career at Roanoke College where she was a two-year captain and four-year starter for the Maroons.


“We are excited to welcome Emerson back to the ODAC and to the YJ Family,” said head coach MK Geratowski. “Emerson’s familiarity with the conference as a stand out player coupled with her coaching experience at Susquehanna this past year made her an ideal candidate for this position. The whole team is excited for her to hit the ground running!”


During her playing career, Foster was named to the All-ODAC First Team three times, All-State First Team three times, and as well as the IWLCA All-Region Teams three times. In 2022, Foster helped lead the Maroons to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009.

J.B. Sheridan

J.B. Sheridan is entering his 12th season as head men's lacrosse coach at Randolph-Macon College.

Randolph-Macon set program records in 2019 finishing the regular season at 13-4 overall and 7-3 in conference play which placed them in the top 20 of the NCAA regional rankings and sent them to the ODAC tournament for the third straight year. This team featured a program first USILA All-American in junior defensive midfielder Tyler Flora, who was also selected to the IMLCA All-Region and VaSID All-State teams along with junior defenseman Camden Stramanak. The Yellow Jackets defense finished 10th in the NCAA in goals against average (7.56) in 2019. It also featured its first ODAC Scholar Athlete of the Year in junior attackman Brendan Markovic who was also recognized on the Google Cloud Scholar All-America team. They added a program high 7 All-ODAC selections to their accolades in 2019.


In Sheridan’s nine years, he has led the team to winning seasons in six of them, adding double digits to the win column in each of the last two years and 3 out of the program’s 4 seasons with 10 or more wins. They have reached the playoffs in seven of those nine years and reached the semi-finals in 2013. After a record setting season in 2019, and with 5 of their 7 all-conference players returning, Coach Sheridan is excited about what is to come for his program in 2020 and beyond.


Randolph-Macon has also been successful academically under Sheridan’s leadership as he has made that a priority, raising the team GPA by .81 up to a 3.0 since he arrived. He has coached 4 Scholar All-Americans and had the programs first ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the year in 2019. He also had the graduating student-athlete with the highest GPA at R-MC on his team in 2018.


Off the field, the Yellow Jackets have participated in the R-MC Men's Lacrosse Holiday Toy Drive each of Sheridan’s nine years and brought over 1,000 cans to the campus food drive in 2018.


Sheridan is currently serving on the IMLCA Regional All-American Committee, having previously served as the ODAC representative on the USILA All-American Committee (2012-15) and was a member of the IMLCA Advisory Committee (2014-17).


Sheridan arrived in Ashland after a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Goucher College. As a member of Kyle Hannan's staff with the Gophers, Sheridan spearheaded all phases of the program that posted a 24-9 overall record during his time there. In 2010, Goucher went 14-4, averaged 6.89 goals against & captured the Landmark Conference Championship advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.


Sheridan served as the Gophers' defensive coordinator, while working with the goalkeepers and face-off specialists as well. Sheridan mentored 12 All-Landmark Conference selections as well as two All-Americans. Off the field, Sheridan was responsible for all aspects of recruiting, scouting and the Gophers strength & conditioning program.


Prior to joining Hannan at Goucher, Sheridan broke into the coaching ranks at his alma mater, Salisbury University, serving as an assisting coach for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. During that time, the Sea Gulls went 45-0 and captured two National Championships. Sheridan was involved in all aspects of the SU program that featured 17 All-Americans and two National Players of the Year during that time.


As a three-year player at Salisbury, Sheridan helped the Sea Gulls to a 60-1 overall record, including National Championships in 2004 and 2005 & another Championship game appearance in 2006. Sheridan graduated from Salisbury with a degree in Graphic Design and was recognized with the Salisbury University Athletic Department Academic Achievement Award in 2006.


In 2016, Sheridan earned a Master of Education Degree in Athletic Administration and Leadership from Goucher College. He and his wife Erin, Randolph-Macon's Assistant Athletic Director for Operations, reside in Richmond.
