Mathew Faas of West Henrietta, NY has been named the head women's lacrosse coach at Misericordia University, Chuck Edkins, director of athletics, has announced.
"It gives me great pleasure to welcome Mathew Faas to Misericordia University and our athletics staff," said Edkins. "His extensive coaching experience and knowledge of the game will be a tremendous asset to our student-athletes."
Most recently, Faas spent four years as an assistant coach at Rochester Institute of Technology where he coached two Conference Players of the Year, 16 all-conference players and three all-region selections.
In addition, he spent the last six years as the director of a local club team in Rochester, NY.
Previously, he served assistant coaching stints at Delaware, Limestone (SC) College and St. Bonaventure.
Faas earned his bachelor of arts in political science from Nazareth College and earned his master's in curriculum instruction from University of Phoenix.
Faas takes over a team that was 12-9 a year ago and has made four consecutive appearances in the MAC Freedom championship game.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to join the Misericordia University community and athletics program," said Faas. "I look forward to continuing the winning tradition of the MU women's lacrosse program."
