Dawn Sachs

Dawn Sachs is currently the Associate Athletic Director, Senior Woman Administrator and head women’s lacrosse coach (entering 12th season). In addition, she acts as the Chief Academic Officer of the athletic department.


Sachs guided the Mavericks to a 13-6 record in 2023 and the program's second straight ECC Championship and third overall. Mercy ended the season ranked No. 21 nationally in the final ILWomen/IWLCA Poll and just missed out on qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. Sachs oversaw the development of nine All-ECC performers, highlighted by Lindsey Shimborske who was named ECC Defender of the Year, IWLCA First Team All-Region and was tabbed IWLCA Second Team All-American. Sachs also oversaw the first College Sports Communicators Academic All-American in program history with Shimborske earning Third Team honors.


Sachs led the Mavericks to a 14-5 record in 2022 and the program's fourth NCAA Tournament appearance. Mercy won their third straight ECC Regular Season Championship and won their first ECC Tournament Championship since 2019. Sachs was named ECC Coach of the Year for the fourth time after leading the Mavericks to an undefeated record in ECC play. Mercy ended the season ranked No. 12 nationally with senior Madeline Garvalosa being named an IWLCA Second Team All-American. Sachs also oversaw the development of four All-Region selections and a school-record-tying 12 All-ECC selections.


In 2021, Sachs led the Mavericks to a 12-2 record and their first-ever outright ECC Regular Season Championship. The Mavericks qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history and Sachs was named ECC Coach of the Year for the third time. Mercy ended the season ranked No. 16 nationally in the IWLCA Poll and the Mavericks had a school-record 12 ECC All-Conference selections, highlighted by junior Micayla Brady being named Defensive Player of the Year and senior Emma Jacobsen being named Goalkeeper of the Year. Under Sach's leadership, Brady and senior Kellie Znaniecki were named IWLCA All-Region and Brady was tabbed IWLCA Second Team All-American.


The 2020 season saw Mercy go 4-1 during the shortened season due to COVID-19. Sachs led the Mavericks to a No. 11 final national ranking in the IWLCA Poll and the highlight of the season came when Mercy defeated No. 18 Bentley in the final seconds on February 29th. The Mavericks concluded the season with a 10-3 win at No. 25 Florida Tech on March 11th.


In 2019, the Mavericks went 15-5 and appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the second time. Mercy also qualified for the ECC Tournament for the fourth straight year and won a share of the ECC Regular Season crown for the first time. The Mavericks went on to secure their first-ever ECC Tournament Championship with their first-ever win over national power LIU Post. Sachs led the Mavericks to a No. 11 ranking in the final IWLCA Poll and senior Hunter Isnardi was named IWLCA Division II Midfielder of the Year for the second straight year. Isnardi was also named First Team All-American, First Team All-Region and ECC Midfielder of the Year after setting a new career goals record in NCAA Division II women's lacrosse. Isnardi was also named to the IWLCA Senior All-Star Game and was named an NCAA Woman of the Year Award nominee. Junior Katherine Sanchez and freshman Micayla Brady were tabbed Second Team All-Region and the Mavericks had six named to the ECC All-Conference teams.


The 2018 campaign saw the Mavericks go 14-4 and appear in the ECC Tournament for the third straight year. Mercy advanced to the ECC Championship Game for the second straight year and ended the season ranked No. 13 in the final IWLCA Coaches Poll. Under Sachs, the Mavericks had three All-Americans in Hunter Isnardi, Talia Stagnitta and Emily Jehle with Isnardi being named the IWLCA, Inside Lacrosse and ECC Midfielder of the Year. At the end of the season, Isnardi was crowned NCAA Division II Statistical Champion in goals per game and draw controls per game, setting a new NCAA Division II single-season record for draw controls. Stagnitta was named ECC Defender of the Year as the Mavericks had six named to the All-ECC teams. Isnardi, Stagnitta and Jehle all received IWLCA First Team All-Region accolades and were named to the All-ECAC teams with Isnardi being named Offensive Player of the Year. The accolades did not stop there for the Mavericks with Jehle and Coticchio being named to the IWLCA Senior All-Star Game and Jehle also received ECC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Women's Lacrosse.


In 2017, Sachs led the Mavericks to a school-record 16 wins and their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Mercy qualified for the ECC Tournament for the second straight year and won their first-ever playoff game over NYIT to advance to the ECC Championship Game for the first time in program history. Sachs also guided the Mavericks to their first national ranking in program history, ending the season ranked No. 11 in the final IWLCA Coaches Poll. During that time Sachs coached the first two All-Americans in program history in sophomores Hunter Isnardi and Talia Stagnitta. Isnardi was a First Team selection and Stagnitta a Third Team recipient, while Sachs coached a school-record seven ECC All-Conference honorees with Isnardi being named Offensive Player of the Year. Sachs was named ECC Coach of the Year for the second straight year and had four named to the IWLCA All-North Region teams. The Mavericks also had three named to the All-ECAC women’s lacrosse teams and two student-athletes selected to play in the IWLCA North/South Senior All-Star Game.


The 2016 season proved to be a successful season with an overall record of 12-7. The Mavericks made their first appearance in the East Coast Conference Playoffs, obtaining the No. 3 seed. Awards and accolades from the 2016 season include one IWLCA Second Team All-North Region selection, one IWLCA Third Team All-North Region selection, one ECC Rookie of the Year, three ECC First Team All-Conference selections and two Second Team All-ECC recipients. Additional accolades include a Rookie of the Year and First Team selection from the ECAC. These accolades helped cap off an outstanding 2016 season that also saw Sachs named ECC Co-Coach of the Year.


During the summer, Sachs is an assistant director and coach with the Long Island Wave (Summer Lacrosse Club). Throughout the school year, Sachs also coaches with the Scarsdale Youth Lacrosse program with different age groups.


Prior to Mercy, Sachs coached at both Plainedge and Wantagh High Schools, while teaching at Valley Stream, Plainedge and Wantagh School Districts.


As a player, Sachs was a two-time national champion and All-American at Adelphi University and an NCAA All-Rookie Team selection in 2003.


Sachs earned a bachelor of science degree in physical education and health from Adelphi in 2006 and went on to earn a master of science degree in health education in 2009. She resides in Massapequa, N.Y. with her husband Keith, daughter Shea and two dogs, Coach and Nike.

Joseph Corace

Joseph Corace joined the men’s lacrosse staff prior to the spring 2013 season and joined the women's staff ahead of the 2017 season.


Corace was named the 2017 IWLCA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year after helping lead the Mavericks to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history in 2017.


Corace has coached lacrosse for decades while serving as a technology teacher since 1983. While serving as head coach of the Mahopac High School Boys’ lacrosse team from 1995-2003, he also coached the Hudson Valley Empire State Boys’ lacrosse team in 1989, 1996, 1998 and 2000 and served as the Chairman from 1995-2002. He led the Mahopac HS team to the New York State Class A Championship in 1996 and was named Section 1 Coach of the Year in both 1996 and 2000. He was elected to the Hudson Valley Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2006.


Corace also coached football for 30 years at Mahopac HS. He also served on the Hudson Valley Boys’ and Girls’ Lacrosse Coaches Associations. He is a current member of the Westchester/Putnam Technical Education Association and US Lacrosse.


Corace earned a bachelor’s of science degree in industrial arts education in 1983 and completed his MS in secondary education at Western Connecticut State in 1989.


Joe Corace resides in Mahopac with his wife Jane and daughters Caitlyn Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Lincoln Memorial University, Alyssa Catawba College, and Briana.
