Katrina Dowd

Brown University's Chancellor Samuel M. Mencoff '78 Vice President for Athletics and Recreation M. Grace Calhoun '92, Ph.D. has named Katrina Dowd the head coach for Women's Lacrosse. One of the most decorated players in the sport's history, Dowd is a World Cup medalist and a five-time national champion, winning three titles as a student and two as a coach. She has previously coached at Army West Point, the University of North Carolina, the University of Oregon, and Syracuse University.

"I am honored to be named the Women's Lacrosse Head Coach at Brown University," said Dowd. "I want to thank Grace Calhoun for this opportunity. I am excited to join the Brown Athletics family and the future of Brown Lacrosse. I am looking forward to building a winning culture, developing student-athletes on and off the field, and providing an amazing team experience."

"Katrina is the definition of a winner. She has been a part of not one, but several, outstanding programs, and we are thrilled that she will bring her championship pedigree to Brown. Her knowledge of the game, offensive creativity, and ability to lead in high-performing team cultures are truly impressive," said Calhoun. "Her achievements as a student-athlete and coach are exceptional, and we couldn't be more excited to welcome her to College Hill."

Dowd most recently served as an assistant coach at West Point, during a historic two-year stretch that saw the Knights garner a record of 27-10. The 2023 team achieved a program-record 15 wins, advanced to the Patriot League Championship for the first time, and earned an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Serving as the coordinator, Army's offense under Dowd was one of the best in the country, with over 14 goals and 34 shots per game.

A native of Yorktown Heights, New York, Dowd also brings head coaching experience to her new role, having spent two seasons as the head women's lacrosse coach at Oregon and winning 18 games.

Dowd served two highly successful stints on staff at the University of North Carolina, leading one of the top offenses in the country to two national championships and setting numerous program records.

After beginning her coaching career on staff at the University of Denver in 2011, Dowd joined the staff at Syracuse in 2012, helping lead the Orange to the NCAA championship game for the first time in program history.

A 2010 graduate of Northwestern, Dowd won three NCAA championships (2007, 2008, 2009) and was a two-time first-team International Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American (2009, 2010) as a player. She was named the 2010 IWLCA Attacker of the Year and a Tewaaraton Award finalist, finishing the season with 110 points on 77 goals and 33 assists.

Dowd played professionally in the United Women's Lacrosse League, earning all-star honors while leading the Long Island Sound to a 2016 league championship. She also played in the inaugural season of the Athletes Unlimited professional lacrosse league in the summer of 2021.

One of the best international players in the sport's history, Dowd starred for the U.S. National Team from 2008-14. She scored a World Cup-record 26 goals in 2013 to lead the Americans to a gold medal. She earned All-World honors for her efforts and was named the Best Women's Player for 2013 by Lacrosse Magazine.

Mike Daly

Mike Daly, who guided the Tufts University men's lacrosse program to three NCAA National Championship titles while boasting the nation's highest scoring offense, was named the head men's lacrosse coach at Brown University on July 1, 2016. Daly enters his eighth season as head coach of the Brown men's lacrosse program in 2024.

Brown finished the 2023 season with a 6-8 record and 2-4 Ivy League mark with three of those losses coming by a single goal. Five Bears, including First Team All-Ivy Matthew Gunty, picked up postseason Ivy League honors. Additionally, Gunty and Devon McLane picked up USILA Scholar All-American honors as the Bears posted another strong season in the classroom.

The 2022 campaign saw the Bears post a 10-5 overall record and capture a share of the Ivy League Regular Season Title. The Bears welcomed Cornell, Penn, and Yale to Stevenson-Pincince Field for the 2022 Ivy League Tournament. The Bears earned an at-large berth to the 2022 NCAA Tournament and were named the eighth-seed and earned the right to host Virginia in the NCAA First Round Game.

The Bears posted a 3-2 record under Daly in the shortened 2020 season with wins over Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, and eighth-ranked Virginia while falling to Providence and Stony Brook by a single goal.

In 2019, Brown finished with a 7-9 overall record and 3-3 conference mark. Brown picked up Ivy League wins over Dartmouth, Harvard, and Princeton before falling to Penn in the Ivy League semifinals. Four Bears earned All-Ivy status: Phil Goss '21, George Grell '22, Ryan Aughavin '22, and Andrew Geppert '23 with Goss earning All-America honors for the second straight season.

Brown finished the 2018 campaign with a 6-9 overall record and 3-3 Ivy League mark with wins over Dartmouth, Penn, and Princeton. Brown fell in two overtime games and three games by two goals in the season. The Bears knocked off fourth-ranked Villanova on the road with a 12-9 victory. Sophomore goalie Phil Goss '21 earned USILA/Nike All-American honors and First Team All-Ivy recognition for his season. Goss ranked second in the NCAA with 13.13 save per game and 15th in the NCAA with a .538 save percentage.

In his inaugural season at Brown in 2017, Daly instilled into the Brown team his exceptional work ethic and drive to succeed, revamping the Bears offensive attack and defensive schemes to produce a 10-6 record and bringing the Bears to within a goal of the NCAA Tournament, falling in the Ivy League Tournament Championship game against Yale by a one goal margin.

Daly, the sixth Brown men's lacrosse coach since 1963, took over a Brown program that advanced to the NCAA Division I National Semifinals in 2016, posted a school record 16 wins, captured the Ivy League Championship for the second straight season and returned three All-Americans, including Tewaaraton Award winner Dylan Molloy '17.

Daly posted a record of 244-83 in 18 seasons as head coach at Tufts, with nine NCAA Tournament appearances and seven NESCAC titles. His Tufts teams won national championships in 2010, 2014 and 2015.

Tufts led the nation in scoring last spring with 402 goals in 23 games for a 17.48 per game average. The Jumbos won their seventh consecutive NESCAC title and finished the year with a 20-3 record, falling in the national championship game. Daly's senior co-captain John Uppgren was named the USILA Co-Player of the Year and Most Outstanding Attackman.

Daly is among the top 10 active coaches for winning percentage and is in the top 20 for victories. Among all-time DIII coaches, he is in the top 10 for winning percentage and top 30 for wins.

Prior to his promotion to head coach of men's lacrosse at Tufts in 1999, the team had compiled a 3-25 record in the 1997-98 seasons combined.

A two time USILA F. Morris Touchstone National Coach of the Year (2010 and 2014), Daly's teams have won 20 or more games four times and made five appearances in the national championship game. Daly oversaw a prolific Tufts offense that scored 423 goals in 2014 to set an NCAA record for a single season for all divisions.

Eight team members were named 2016 USILA Scholar All-Americans, the most on any team in all three divisions. The Jumbos were also deeply involved in the community with Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening illnesses by establishing a team-based support network.

A 1995 Tufts graduate, Daly was a two-sport athlete for the Jumbos, and received a Masters in Education from Tufts in 1997. He and his wife Norah, have a daughter, Fiona, and son, Liam.

What They Are Saying About Mike Daly…

A great hire for Brown."
