Ashley Dehring

Alma College named Ashley Dehring (Johnson) the Head Coach for women's lacrosse on July 1, 2015. Johnson came to Alma from NCAA Division II Grand Valley State University where she was a graduate assistant for the past three years.

In her role as a graduate assistant, Johnson acted as the recruiting coordinator for the Lakers with duties ranging from evaluating players, coordinating visits and planning recruiting events. She was also in charge of the day-to-day operations at Grand Valley State and she produced all of the marketing materials for the team.

In her three years with the program, the Lakers won over 13 games each season and posted an impressive 29-0 overall record in GLIAC games. The team won both the regular season and GLIAC tournament championships in each of her three seasons and was ranked 13th nationally in 2015.

At Grand Valley State, Johnson coached two IWLCA All-Americans, three IWLCA All-Region selections, three GLIAC Defenders of the Year, a GLIAC Rookie of the Year and one GLIAC Attacker of the Year to go along with 21 GLIAC All-Conference selections.

In 2014, the Lakers led the nation in groundballs per game and ranked third nationally in draw controls in 2013.

Before taking the position at Grand Valley State, Johnson was an assistant coach at Division II Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ. With the Lions, she organized and ran practices, scouted opponents, recruited talent and planned all team travel. While at Georgian Court, Johnson coached four All-CACC members on a team that advanced to the conference championship game.

Johnson also has extensive experience in women's lacrosse at the club level, most recently acting as the Logistics Director for the Rapid Lax Club in Grand Rapids. Her duties with the Rapid include tournament management, roster coordination and website maintenance. Prior to becoming the Logistics Director in 2014, Johnson was a youth coach for the Rapid Lax Club where she coached middle school and high school players, a role she held since 2012.

Before going to the Rapid, Johnson was a high school coach for the Thunderbirds Lacrosse Club Program in Atlanta, GA.

On the field, Johnson played for Division III Birmingham Southern College (AL) from 2007-11, acting as team captain each of her four years. As a senior, she was named a USA College Lacrosse Women's Division III All-American and was also a SCAC All-Conference selection after leading the league in assists.

Originally from Chattanooga, TN, Johnson was a US Lacrosse High School All-American, two-time team captain, and two-time team MVP at Girls Preparatory School.

She graduated from Birmingham Southern College with a B.S. in Psychology in 2011 before earning a Masters of Education from Grand Valley State University in 2015.
