Abby Wiley

Abby Wiley begins her fifth year as the women's lacrosse head coach at Wingate University in 2023. She is 38-21 through her first four seasons, going 21-6 in SAC play. Wiley is 104-76 in her coaching career, winning her 100th career game in the 2022 season. Wiley was named the SAC Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2022. She joined Wingate after spending eight seasons at Colorado Mesa. Wiley was announced as the head women's lacrosse coach at Wingate University in June of 2018.


In 2022, Wiley led the Bulldogs to a record-shattering season, going 15-4 overall and 9-1 in league play. Wingate advanced to the SAC title game and earned its first-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs set a record with 15 victories, while also cracking the IWLCA top 25 for the first time in program history. The 'Dogs also had their first-ever All-Americans, with Leah Knowles earning second team honors from the IWLCA and third team accolades from USA Lacrosse Magazine. Becca Ruiz also picked up honorable mention accolades in 2022. Knowles was named the SAC Offensive Player of the Year.


Wiley guided the Bulldogs to a historic season in 2021, going 11-3 overall and 7-2 in the SAC. The Bulldogs set program records for goals, assists, points and goals-against average. Wingate had multiple players earn IWLCA National Player of the Week honors in 2021. The Bulldogs had their first three IWLCA All-Region honorees in Leah Knowles, Megan Biase and Annie Plotts. Biase was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Year, with Plotts picking up Freshman of the Year honors to go along with Wiley being named the SAC Coach of the Year.


The 2020 season saw Wingate start the year 3-5. The Bulldogs were getting hot in early march, rolling to big wins over Lincoln Memorial and Lewis by a combined 15 goals. The Lewis victory came on March 10, which would end up being the final game of the season. Spring sports were cancelled the following day due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 season did see Kendall Wells become the school's all-time leader in career goals and points. She also took over as the all-time leading goal scorer in SAC history in 2020.


In her first season at Wingate in the spring of 2019, Wiley guided the Bulldogs to a 9-9 record, with a 5-3 mark in league play. The Bulldogs finished third in the SAC standings and advanced to the semifinals of the SAC Tournament. Six Bulldogs earned conference honors in Wiley's first season at Wingate, led by SAC Freshman of the Year Becca Ruiz. Wells, Sierra Street and Arion Pierre were first team All-SAC selections, with Ruiz, Emily Ketron and Megan Amrein picking up second team accolades. Pierre was also selected to paly in the IWLCA Senior All-Star game. Wingate was named an IWLCA Honor Squad, with Wells, Casey Roux and Taylor Barker earning Academic Honor Roll accolades.


Prior to her arrival at Wingate, Wiley spent the previous eight seasons as the head coach at Colorado Mesa, where she was the first head coach in program history when the sport was added in 2011. Wiley guided the Mavericks to a winning record in her fourth season despite playing in the highly-competitive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, featuring perennial women's lacrosse powers Lindenwood and Regis. Under Wiley's guidance, the Mavericks have earned the Paul W. Brechler Award each of the last four years. This award is given to the team with the top GPA in the RMAC.


In the sixth year of the program's history, Wiley led the Mavericks to an 11-4 overall record, with a 5-2 mark in the RMAC. She was named the conference Coach of the Year in 2016. Wiley followed by leading Colorado Mesa to a 13-4 record in 2017, going 7-2 in league play, with the Mavericks falling to No. 12 Regis 14-12 in the semifinals of the RMAC Tournament.


In her final season at Colorado Mesa in 2018, Wiley led the Mavericks to a 12-4 overall record, going 7-2 in league play while outscoring opponents 243-163 on the season. CMU earned its first-ever national ranking, checking in at No. 22 in the preseason IWLCA poll. The season ended with a 12-11 overtime loss against Regis, who ended the season ranked seventh nationally, just below fellow RMAC power Lindenwood, ranked fourth in the final poll.


Wiley posted a 66-55 record in her eight seasons at Colorado Mesa, going 36-12 over her last three seasons. Prior to arriving at CMU, Wiley was a volunteer coach with Long Island Select Lacrosse with over four years of experience coaching at Kings Park Youth Lacrosse Camp, For the Love of the Game Camp and State University of New York at Cortland (SUNY) Women's Lacrosse Sport School.


A native of Kings Park, New York, Wiley played collegiate lacrosse at SUNY Cortland for two years. Prior to attending SUNY Cortland she played two years at Nassau Community College where she was a preseason All-American and team captain.


Wiley earned her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Nassau Community College in 2007. She graduated in December 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in Adapted Physical Education. In 2014, Wiley received her Masters of Arts in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine. Abby and her husband Bryan have two sons, Peter and John and a daughter Emma.

Delaney Schappert

Delaney Schappert enters her fourth year on the Wingate Women's Lacrosse staff as the assistant coach and her second year as the full-time assistant coach. Schappert played High School lacrosse at Eastport South Manor on Long Island N.Y. From there, she took her lacrosse career to Bloomsburg University. During her time at Bloomsburg, Schappert was a four-year starter for their women’s lacrosse program. She became team captain her junior year, she helped lead her team to the most caused turnovers in the NCAA for Division II.


Schappert work’s specifically as the defensive coach at Wingate. This most recent season Wingate’s defense led the NCAA for Division II in scoring defense and caused turnovers, setting program records in both categories as the 'Dogs won their first-ever regular season SAC title and went on to capture the first SAC Tournament championship in program history while piling up a program-record 17 wins. Wingate allowed only 6.42 goals per game in the 2023 season to lead the nation, while piling up 16.05 caused turnovers per contest.


Schappert graduated with a degree in Communication Studies in May 2020. She earned her masters degree in Masters of Arts in Sports Management from Wingate in May 2022. She is also currently coaching Ultimate, a women's lacrosse club program in Charlotte.

Tim Boyle

Tim Boyle enters his seventh season as the head men's lacrosse coach in 2023. Boyle has led the Bulldogs to an NCAA Tournament appearance in four of the last five seasons, including back-to-back appearances in the national quarterfinals, highlighted by a national semifinal appearance in 2021. He has led Wingate to three SAC Tournament championships and a regular season SAC title in his tenure with the Bulldogs. Boyle was named the SAC Coach of the Year in 2021. Wingate had zero SAC titles and one NCAA Tournament appearance prior to Boyle's arrival. In his 22 years as a collegiate head coach, Boyle is 214-96 overall.


The 2022 season saw Boyle guide the Bulldogs to a 13-5 record, going 8-2 in SAC play. Wingate earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, rolling to a 20-11 victory at #7 Lindenwood to advance to the national quarterfinals. The Bulldogs were ranked in the USILA top 10 all season, climbing as high as number two, the highest mark in program history. Wingate piled up the honors, with Willie Grieco and Danny Riley both being consensus first team All-Americans. Grieco was named the SAC Player of the Year and SAC Athlete of the Year, while also being named the National Attackman of the Year by the USILA. Riley was named the USILA National Midfielder of the Year.


The 2021 season saw the Bulldogs go 12-3 overall and 8-1 in the SAC, ranking in the USILA top 20 every week of the season. Wingate defeated UIndy in the national quarterefinals, the first NCAA Tournament victory in program history to reach the national semifinals. The Bulldogs piled up the awards in 2021, led by USILA National Lonpole Midfielder of the Year Reese Orman. He was a consensus All-American in 2021, along with Willie Greico, Bobby Padden, Danny Riley and Adam Vodovnik.


The 2020 season saw the Bulldogs jump out to a 4-2 start, which included a 13-7 victory over #10 UIndy. Wingate opened league play with an 18-7 victory over Lincoln Memorial on March 7. That would turn out to be the final game of the season, with all spring sports coming to an abrupt halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Wingate was ranked in every USILA top 20 poll during the 2020 season.


The 2019 season saw the Bulldogs go 13-4 overall and 7-1 in league play to win the first regular season SAC title in program history to go along with a third consecutive SAC Tournament championship. Wingate earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years and third time in program history. The Bulldog defense led the conference in goals-against average in 2019. Wingate had 10 players earn all-conference honors, including 2019 SAC Player of the Year Alex Llerandi. Wingate had a pair of USILA All-Americans in Llerandi and Sean Moran, while Llerandi and RJ Neal both earned USILA/Warrior Scholar All-America accolades.


In his second season at Wingate in 2018, Boyle led the Bulldogs to an 11-5 record, going 7-1 in the SAC to finish in second place in the league standings. Wingate knocked off third-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne 12-9 in the SAC title game to capture a second straight SAC title. Conor Gronbach was named a third team All-American, while eight Bulldogs earned all-conference accolades, with Chris Gazzio earning Gronbach as a first team honoree.


Wingate went 13-4 in Boyle's first season in 2017 as the Bulldogs earned their first trip to the NCAA play-offs since 2001 and just the second in program history. Wingate's victory at Queens in the SAC title game gave the 'Dogs their first ever SAC championship. The Bulldogs were ranked number nine nationally in the final regular season poll. Eleven student-athletes made the All-SAC team, led by senior attack Austin Murphy (’17), who led the league in total points and assists. Murphy finished his brilliant career as Wingate’s all-time leading scorer.


Two Wingate University men’s lacrosse student-athletes were recognized by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association as 2017 NCAA Division II USILA/Nike All-America team members. Bulldog goalkeeper Will Sheridan (’18) was a second team All-America selection, while attack Llerandi received honorable mention laurels. In the classroom, defender Anthony Crisera (’17) was recognized as the SAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award winner.


Boyle came to Wingate after 16 seasons at Dowling College. He held a 148-73 record with the Golden Lions, leading the team to four NCAA tournament appearances and a national title in 2012. Dowling also appeared in the championship game in the 2006 season. Boyle was named the National Coach of the Year by the USILA the same year. He won the award again in 2010 when the Golden Lions appeared in the national semi-finals. Boyle was named the National Coach of the Year for the third time when he led the Golden Lions to the national title in 2012.


In addition to his national awards, Boyle earned East Coast Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2006, 2010, 2012 and 2016. During his tenure at Dowling, Boyle coached 43 All-Americans, six of which went on to play professionally. The Golden Lions had three All-Americans in 2016, including one first team selection and a pair of third team honorees.


Prior to taking over as Dowling’s head coach, Boyle served as the Golden Lions assistant from 1995-2000. Boyle has also served as an assistant coach for the Irish Lacrosse Team which competed in the 2002 World Championships in Perth, Australia. Prior to his coaching experiences, he was a four-year starter and team captain at Oneonta State. He graduated in 1990, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in both U.S. History and European History. He earned his Master’s Degree from Dowling.


Boyle has served on several USILA and NCAA committees in his career. He served on the USILA Poll Committee and All-American Committee from 2001-10. He was on the NCAA Division II Championships Committee from 2012-15, while serving on the NCAA Division II Regional Advisory Committee from 2010-15. The Wantagh, N.Y. native is married to Jeanne Marie Boyle.
