Kevin Cooke

The Trine University athletic department has announced Kevin Cooke as the new head women's lacrosse coach going into the spring of 2022 season.

In his first season at Trine, Coach Cooke led the Thunder to an 11-5 record, the most wins in a single season in program history. The team won their first postseason game in school history with an 18-17 victory at Albion in the MIAA Tournament Semifinals to reach the MIAA Tournament Championship game. They were on the doorstep of qualifying for the NCAA Divsion III National Tournament, but came up short in a battle with Saint Mary's 19-15. Trine had a record four student-athletes named All-MIAA, including Calista Richmond and Liv Ghent on First Team and Brooke Hoag and Madison Howard on Second Team. Richmond was also honored as Rookie of the Year. In 2023, the Thunder placed sixth in the league with a 2-5 record in MIAA play and a 5-7 overall mark. Cooke led a pair of All-MIAA student-athletes in Calista Richmond and Maddy Kasten.

"We are excited for Coach Cooke to lead our Women's Lacrosse program as we look to take the next step," Athletic Director Matt Land stated. "With 20 years of women's lacrosse experience, he has positioned us to compete at the highest level."

Most recently, Cooke was the head coach at Mercyhurst University from 2016-2021. Prior to that, he also served as the head women's lacrosse coach at Edinboro University and Queens University of Charlotte. He started his coaching career at Mercyhurst as well, where he was the head women's lacrosse and head women's field hockey coach from 1997-2002.

In total, Cooke has had 36 All-Conference Players, 13 All-Region Selections, 16 All-Americans, an NCAA Statistical Leader, and a National Player of the Year on his roster. He also coached teams to eight conference championship appearances and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Cooke was at the helm of five IWLCA Academic Teams and currently sits sixth in All-Time Wins at the NCAA DII level.

"I would sincerely like to thank Coach Land, President Brooks and the Trine Community for being so welcoming," Cooke said. "I could tell from the moment that I stepped on campus that this was the family that I wanted to be a part of. The athletic department and university's leadership is something that can see throughout the entire coaching staff. We have an awesome group of players that are excited for the new season and I look forward to building on the program's success."

Cooke graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1994 with a Bachelor's Degree in Food Marketing and from the College at Brockport in 1996 with a Bachelor's Degree in Health and Physical Education. Coach Cooke and his wife Ashlee reside in Angola with their two sons, Gavin and Noah.
