Doug Misarti
Consistency and competitiveness have been a part of the Kenyon men's lacrosse program since Doug Misarti took the reigns in 2008. Now entering his 16th year, Misarti is aiming, once again, to keep the Owls among the best in the North Coast Athletic Conference. In the previous 15 seasons, Kenyon has posted winning records in 11 campaigns, as well as double-digit win totals in five seasons.
The 2022 campaign was one of the best in program history as Misarti led the team to program bests of 14 regular-season wins, eight NCAC victories, and 11 All-NCAC honorees. Kenyon finished as the runner-up in both the NCAC regular-season and NCAC Tournament Championship in 2022. The Kenyon defense ranked third in the nation in scoring (7.06 goals allowed per game), and the roster racked up numerous postseason awards for their efforts. Along with the 11 all-conference honorees, three members of Kenyon's roster earned IMLCA All-Region honors, while two garnered USILA All-American recognition. Misarti was awarded NCAC Coach of the Year honors after the team's success, his third COTY nod.
Over two pandemic-shortened seasons, Misarti made the best of difficult times, steering his 2020 team to a 5-1 record and his 2021 team to a 6-1 record that included a spot in the conference final. At the end of that 2021 season, the Kenyon men tied a program-record at the time with nine players being named to the All-Conference team. One player went on to garner All-Region accolades and another was tabbed an All-American.
In 2019, Misarti directed Kenyon to an 11-6 record and qualified for the four-team NCAC Tournament for the sixth time in seven seasons. Like 2021, Kenyon had nine of its players earn All-NCAC accolades, a program record.
During his tenure, Misarti has led the College to the postseason 10 times, including the NCAA Tournament in 2008 and 2012. In his 15 years at Kenyon, he's mentored a total of 85 All-NCAC performers, two NCAC Newcomers of the Year, and two NCAC Defensive Players of the Year. Additionally, he's coached three USILA North/South Senior All-Star Game honorees, five All-Region award-winners, as well as four All-Americans and eight USILA Scholar All-Americans.
In 2016, Kenyon's offense was one of the best in the country, ranking third in man-up offense and 22nd in scoring offense. Misarti pushed the program to an 11-4 record, including a 6-2 mark in NCAC play and an undefeated record at home. For that, he was named the NCAC's Coach of the Year for the second time in his career. Under his guidance, senior goalie Patrick Shevelson was named NCAC Defensive Player of the Year, an IMLCA All-Region honoree and both a USILA All-American and USILA Scholar All-American.
Following 10-win regular seasons in 2012 and 2008, the program earned a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament. After the 2012 season, Misarti was named NCAC Coach of the Year for the first time.
In addition to his coaching duties at Kenyon, Misarti served four seasons on the USILA Division III Poll Committee (2008-2011) and served on the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Rules Committee from 2013-17. He was also the chair of the NCAC Men's Lacrosse Coaches Committee and in 2017 was named to the USILA All-American Regional Selection Committee. Furthermore, during December of 2019, Misarti was named as the NCAC representative for the IMLCA Division III Advisory Committee.
Prior to his arrival at Kenyon, Misarti spent eight years at Stevens Institute of Technology where he was the architect of one of most prolific offenses in the country. Six of those seasons included Knickerbocker Conference titles, as well as appearances in the NCAA Division III tournament, where the Ducks reached the quarterfinal round in 2004. In Misarti's last four seasons as Stevens' offensive coordinator, the Ducks ranked among the nation's top 25 teams and within the nation's top three in scoring offense. In 2004, they ranked third, while in 2005 and 2007, they ranked second only to national champion Salisbury University. In 2006, the team produced the nation's top scoring average, registering 15.67 goals per game.
While at Stevens, Misarti was promoted from assistant to associate head coach in 2005. He helped develop eight All-Americans, five North/South game participants and 36 all-conference players, including four conference players of the year. After joining the staff in 2000, Misarti helped the Ducks to a combined 91-41 record.
A 1999 graduate of Drew University, Misarti first attended and played lacrosse at Washington College, where he was a member of two Division III national runner-up teams. He moved on to Drew for his final two years of college and became a standout attackman for the Rangers. He graduated with a degree in English and went on to earn his master's degree in Education from Centenary College.
A native of Long Valley, New Jersey, Misarti now resides in Mount Vernon, Ohio with his wife, Alicia, and two daughters, Sarah and Amanda.
