Johnson & Wales (RI) University Director of Athletics Dana Garfield has announced the hiring of Maria Patane as interim women's lacrosse head coach. Patane replaced Jenn Thomas, who resigned earlier this year accept a similar position at her alma mater.

Patane spend the 2022 campaign as a volunteer assistant coach with the Wildcats, who closed the season 14-6 overall (11-2 Great Northeast Athletic Conference) and advanced to the GNAC Championship. "We are excited to have Maria lead our WLAX program during the 2023 season," said Garfield. "As a former member of multiple championship teams and proud alumnus, Maria brings with her a passion and commitment to this program and these student-athletes. She has extensive experience in the sport and tremendous insight into what is needed to build and maintain a high-caliber program."

Tim Murphy

Tim Murphy took over the head coaching reigns of the JWU-Providence men’s lacrosse program in September, 2022.

In his first season in Providence, the Wildcats won 10 games and advanced to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoffs. Three student-athletes earned all-conference honors, including Mike Catuosco, who was tabbed both GNAC Face-off and Defensive Player of the Year. He later participated in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-Star Game and was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America Team.

Murphy came to JWU following 10 years as the men’s lacrosse head coach at Curry College, a member of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). He guided Curry to three 10-win seasons (2016-18) and the first two playoff wins in program history: a 10-8 triumph at Roger Williams in 2017 and a 14-13 home win over Nichols two years later.

The 2018 CCC Coach of the Year, Murphy produced over 20 CCC All-Conference student-athletes as well and two USILA All-America selections. Additionally, more than 10 of Murphy’s student-athletes were selected to participate in the NEILA All-Star Game – an organization Murphy is currently the president of. Through extensive recruiting and Prospect Days, Murphy was able to increase his roster size at Curry by 35 percent during his time in Milton.

Prior to his time at Curry, Murphy spent two seasons (2011-12) as the men’s lacrosse head coach at Husson University in Maine, leading a third-year Eagles program to the 2011 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship game. Twelve of Murphy’s student-athletes garnered NAC All-Conference honors while three participated in the NEILA Senior All-Star Game and one received USILA Scholar All-America honors. Off the field, his program was involved with the Alzheimer’s Association, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and the Call to Honor Triathlon.

Murphy began his coaching career in 2005 as an assistant coach at both the University of Southern Maine and Kennebunk High School. In 2006, he joined the coaching staff at Merrimack College and helped the Warriors climb as high as No. 8 in the country. He went on to spend two years as an assistant at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in North Carolina (2008-09) before landing at Franklin Pierce in 2009. In his only season on the sidelines in Rindge, N.H., the Ravens set records for both wins and conference wins.

A native of Maine, Murphy has worn multiple hats during his collegiate coaching career. He served as a resident director at St. Andrews Presbyterian, worked as both the athletic work-study coordinator and the Director of the Swan Center at Husson, and as the strength & conditioning coordinator and game management administrator at Curry.

Murphy was a four-year starter for the Warriors from 2000-04 while studying mathematics and secondary education. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts from St. Andrews Presbyterian in 2009.

I found it easy to use. It included all of the information that a college coach/recruiter would look for. I highly recommend it to all college bound athletes!
