Karen Harvey

Karen Harvey joined the Ferrum coaching staff in March of 2006 as Associate Head Women's Lacrosse Coach, assuming leadership for the team as head coach in the summer of 2006. Harvey is a member of the IWLCA 100 wins club and is the winningest coach in program history. Her players have been awarded all-conference 46 times including one player of the year award, three all tournament team awards and 79 academic all-conference awards.


From 1995 to 2005, Harvey served as Head Women’s Basketball Coach and Physical Education Instructor at Hollins University. Harvey also served as Hollins’ Sports Information Director. Prior to joining the staff at Hollins, Harvey served as Assistant Girls Basketball Coach at William Byrd High School and Head Girls JV Coach at Patrick Henry High School, both from 1994-95. Prior to that, she served as a Biology and Chemistry Teacher at Staunton River High School from 1993-94, and Head Athletic Trainer at Radford High School from 1992-93.


Harvey holds professional memberships with US Lacrosse, and the International Womens Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). She received her bachelor’s degree in physical education from Roanoke College in 1991. She then earned her master’s degree in exercise science from Virginia Tech in 1993.


Harvey's husband Bryan is also employed at Ferrum, serving as Head Women's Basketball Coach. The Harveys reside in Ferrum and have three children, Micaela (Ferrum '22), Tyler and Tucker.

Zach Louie

Zach Louie joined the Ferrum men's lacrosse staff as Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach in 2020-21, and was named Interim Head Coach in August 2022. He was then named Head Men's Lacrosse Coach in October 2022.


Louis was named Defensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator in September 2021 and is responsible for all phases of the Panther’s defensive system. His prior professional experience has given him the tools to manage all aspects of the Panthers recruiting strategy, monitoring the staff’s recruiting correspondents, coordinating on campus and in-person visits, implementation of the recruiting communication plan, and aiding with the onboarding for incoming commits.


In addition to overseeing Ferrum's defense and recruiting, Louie aids with day-to-day team operations and academic monitoring. As a certified strength and conditioning specialist, he assists with the team's sports performance training, focusing on speed, agility, and quickness development.


In 2021 Louie assisted with the defense, working closely with the defensive midfield unit. His position group tallied 22 caused turnovers and 85 ground balls. Under Louie’s guidance Adam Brooks led the charge in both categories with nine caused turnovers and 33 ground balls. In addition to working with the defensive midfield unit, Louie oversaw the face-off unit and managed the substitution box on game days.


Prior to joining the Ferrum staff, Louie worked as a Processor for Acquisition Title and Settlement in Roanoke, Virginia, and was the Chief Scribe at Lewis Gale Medical Center. A 2019 graduate from Roanoke College with a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Louie is currently pursuing a second degree in nursing at Ferrum College.


During his time at Roanoke, the team was a three-time ODAC Tournament semifinalist. Louie made appearances in 32 games for the Maroon’s defense to average only 9.64 goals-against per game. He received the Paul S. Griffin coach’s award for dedication and leadership to the program at Roanoke.


A native of Alexandria Virginia, Louie was a two-time All-Region, and three-time All-Conference player at Hayfield Secondary School. Louie closed out his high school career as one of the most decorated close defensemen to play for the Hawks.

Cole Hogan

Cole Hogan joined the Ferrum men's lacrosse staff in 2021-22 as Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach. Hogan plays a large role in assisting with the offense, working closely with the attackmen. He is responsible for assisting with the offensive system, breaking down self-scouts, analyzing film, and maximizing individual sessions, Hogan enables players to refine their skills and offensive lacrosse IQ. Hogan’s approach to developing the player is an integral part to the Panther offense. He helps with offensive game planning and implementation during practice. Hogan also coordinates the Man-Up team and manages the substitution box on game days.


Hogan is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist. He oversees the team's sports performance training by developing off-season and in-season workout programs. Hogan assists with all aspects of recruiting, primarily focusing on running prospect days, camps, clinics, and organizing the staff’s summer recruiting calendar.


Hogan comes to Ferrum from Fredericksburg, Virginia, where he has spent two seasons as the Head Varsity Boys Lacrosse Coach at Stafford High School.


A 2019 graduate of Mary Washington University, Hogan received his bachelor’s degree in History. He made 37 starts and appeared in 52 games over his four-year career with the Eagles. Hogan closed out his playing career at Mary Washington with 80 points on 57 goals and 23 assists. A native of Springfield, Virginia, Hogan played at high school lacrosse at Bishop O’Connell High School.
