Scott Gwyn

Scott Gwyn will begin his first season as the head men's lacrosse coach for Concordia University Chicago. His playing experience along with his coaching experience prepared him to step in as the third head coach in program history.


Gwyn had an outstanding career as a student-athlete at Wheeling University, a Division II school in the Mountain East Conference. The long stick midfielder from Sykesville, Md., played in all 52 games during his time as a Cardinal, starting in 46 of them. He finished his career in West Virginia by earning All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference second team honors after a standout senior season. He finished in the top 25 in Division II in caused turnovers per game (12th) and ground balls per game (25th). He ended his career with a total of 186 ground balls and 68 caused turnovers. With these statistics, Gwyn made a permanent mark on the GMAC as he is third in the record books for the most ground balls during his senior season.


Prior to his time at Wheeling, Gwyn played lacrosse at Westminster High School in Maryland. There, he was a three-year starter that helped his team to two county championships and one state championship. He also earned first team all-conference and first team all-county honors twice, second team all-county honors once, Player of the Year honors and was named a Brine All-American.


Along with his extensive playing experience and accolades, Gwyn volunteered as a lacrosse coach at Shaler Area High School in Pittsburgh, where he helped the team to its best league finish since 2010.


Gwyn received his master's degree in international affairs and national security policy studies from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor's degree in political science, government and English from Wheeling University.
