Casey Kear

Casey Kear was hired as Head Coach of the BSC men's lacrosse program on June 13, 2013.

The Panthers found success in the 2021 season going 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the SAA. The Panthers earned a bid to the SAA tournament where they wound up falling in the semifinals to Rhodes. Six Panthers earned All-SAA honors in the 2021 season.

Despite the season being cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Panthers still found success in the 2020 season, including 13 Dean’s List and six Southern Athletic Association player of the week awards. Eight Panthers were also named to the SAA Academic Honor Roll honor.

In 2019, BSC saw its first All-American in program history under Kear. Davis Thompson was recognized by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association as one of the best midfielders in the country. He was also an All-South Region selection from the Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association. Due to a three-way tie at second place, the Panthers finished fifth in the SAA regular season, but five Panthers earned All-SAA honors led by Thompson, who was named SAA Offensive Player of the Year.

Kear led BSC to its second consecutive trip to the SAA semifinals in 2018. Their 11-6 finish was the second best of the past six years. Six Panthers were named to all-conference teams.

Under Kear, the Panthers advanced to the SAA semifinals in 2017 after finishing 4-3 in conference play. BSC went 8-9 overall, but placed five on all-conference teams. McHale Schnieder and Davis Thompson highlighted the group by earning first-team honors, and Tom Grove was named to the all-tournament team.

In 2016, he led the Panthers to their first 10+ win season since 2012 after steadily improving their record during his tenure. BSC went 12-5 overall and 4-3 in SAA play to finish tied for third in the league. They would fall to eventual champion Sewanee in the semifinals. Eight Panthers earned all-conference nods for their play throughout the year, headlined by Evan Lalande who was named a first-team midfielder.

Kear was an assistant men's lacrosse coach at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., from 2006-13. His main responsibility was coordinating the defense, and he was also the recruiting coordinator. Kear coached two NCAA All-Americans at FMC, and helped lead the Diplomats to top-20 national rankings in each of the past three seasons and 21 total wins in the last two seasons.

Kear is a 2006 graduate of State University of New York at Albany (SUNY Albany), where he received degrees in History and Sociology. He played varsity lacrosse for SUNY Albany, helping lead the Great Danes to the America East championships in 2004 and 2005. Prior to SUNY Albany, he attended Herkimer County Community College, winning the 2003 Junior College National Championship, and before that he attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point from 2001-2003.

Kear has also helped direct Tom Cavallaro's All-Star Lacrosse Camps in Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Texas over the past five years.
