Elizabeth Grote

The most successful coach in program history, Liz Grote has been the head coach of the Polar Bear women's lacrosse team since 2003.

Over the course of her tenure at Bowdoin, Grote has won over 65% of her games and led the Polar Bears to unprecedented heights. The Polar Bears have made two NESCAC Championship game appearances, qualified for seven NCAA Division III Tournaments and - in 2011 - accumulated the most wins in school history (18), the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA "Final Four" and runner-up finish in the Division III Championship.

In 2011 Grote surpassed long-time head coach Sally LaPointe as the winningest in program history. Coach Grote was honored as the IWLCA's New England Coach of the Year in 2005, '11 and '15. Under her direction, Bowdoin has had more than a dozen IWLCA Division III All-Americans and has won over 200 matches.

A native of Simsbury, Conn., Grote is a 1994 graduate of the University of Vermont and came to Bowdoin with an extensive background in college lacrosse. In addition to accumulating a school-best 32-18 record in three years at Wooster, Grote held assistant coaching jobs at Monmouth University (1995), Princeton University (1996) and the University of New Hampshire (1997-99). Prior to Bowdoin, Grote was the head coach at Wooster where, in 2002, she led her team to a school- record 12 victories (12-6 overall), surpassing the 29-year program's previous top mark of 10 wins in a season, and was named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division III West Region Coach of the Year.

Bill Mason

In the summer of 2021, Bill Mason was named head coach of the Bowdoin men's lacrosse team and in his first season with the Polar Bears in 2022, led the team to quite simply one of the finest years in program history. Named the NESCAC Coach of the Year, Mason guided the Polar Bears to a school-record 18-3 mark, a NESCAC Championship game appearance and home NCAA Regional for the first time in program history. Bowdoin advanced to the national quarterfinals for the first time in the history of the team and numerous players garnered All-NESCAC, All-New England and All-American honors.

In six years at Lasell, Mason guided the program to unprecedented success, including an overall record of 61-23 (.726), two Great Northeast Athletic Conference championships (2017, '21) and two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. His teams have dominated GNAC play over the last half-decade, racking up a 36-3 mark in conference play, and 47 of his athletes have earned GNAC post-season honors, including the program's first USILA All-American in 2019.

Prior to his arrival to Lasell, Mason spent three years as an assistant coach at Bates College. With the Bobcats, Mason served as the assistant coach and defensive coordinator and helped lead Bates to its first winning season in over eight years, as well as the program's first NCAA tournament appearance and victory. Mason also coordinated all aspects of recruiting with the Bobcats, and assisted with team travel, daily practice planning, and team community service outreach.

Before Bates, Mason returned to his alma mater, Western New England University, where he served as the offensive assistant and recruiting coordinator. Mason helped guide the 2012 squad to an undefeated conference season, a No. 15 rank in Division III, and an NCAA Tournament bid. While at WNEU, Mason was a three-year member of the Golden Bears men's lacrosse program, and won a Commonwealth Coast Conference championship during his first year in 2009.

Mason earned his Bachelor's Degree in Communications from Western New England in 2012 and owns a Master's Degree in Athletic Administration from Lasell. A native of Southborough, Massachusetts, Mason and his wife Alex have a son, Wes.

I have used the Soccer in College site for 8 years, and it has helped me keep my personal and soccer information up to date, and has helped be track college contacts and interest. I think the site helped me prepare for college offers, and helped me determine that I wanted to play for UNC.
