Shannon Hertz

Shannon Hertz concluded her ninth season at the helm of the Bloomsburg University lacrosse team following the team's 2023 campaign that saw the Huskies finish 7-10 overall and 4-7 in conference play.

Over the past nine seasons with the Huskies, Hertz has guided the program to a 71-64 overall record and three PSAC postseason berths. Following the team's eight-win season in 2021, Hertz climbed to the No. 2 spot in all-time wins. She sits behind Sharon O'Keefe, who has a program-best 91 wins.

Last season, the Huskies were receiving votes in the ILWomen/IWLCA Division II Top 25 Poll during the first month of the season after winning their first three games of the season. Bloomsburg began the year by defeating Jefferson, Lock Haven and Indiana (PA). The team would go on to finish the year with a win over Shippensburg to close out the season 7-10 (4-7 PSAC). Under the guidance of Hertz, junior midfielder Amanda Stoll was named to the All-PSAC East Second Team. Stoll finished the year with 25 goals, nine assists and 34 points.

During the 2022 season, Bloomsburg began the year by winning six of its first seven contests and kept up the hot streak by beating No. 12 Mercy College 14-13 on April 1 at home. The victory marked the first win over a nationally ranked team for Hertz, who went on to guide the team to a 10-7 record in 2022. The winning record marks the sixth straight for the Huskies, who have only had one season with an overall record under .500 under Hertz over the course of her eight seasons. Under Hertz's guidance, Erin Gingrich, Erika Biehl and Kelsey Kilgallon were All-PSAC selections and the latter two also received nods to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Atlantic Region Team.

In 2021, the team outscored opponents 177-144 in order to capture its fifth consecutive winning record and a spot in the PSAC tournament. The Huskies were led in scoring by Abby Bergman, who was one of eight players on the squad to earn PSAC East All-Conference honors at the end of the year. Bergman was joined on the list by Anna Dempsey, Tiffany Diachynsky, Lana Paulo, Kilgallon, Biehl and Angela DiPasquale. The Huskies finished the season by reaching the PSAC Quarterfinals and concluded the year with an overall record of 8-6 - which included a conference slate of 7-5.

During the team's COVID-19 shortened season in the spring of 2020, which came to an untimely end due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Huskies were off to an impressive start winning three-straight games and four of the first five. Bloomsburg out-scored opponents 71-38 in the short five-game season and held a remarkable 72-44 advantage in draw controls.

In 2019, the Huskies finished 11-6 overall and 7-5 in the conference. During the season, the Huskies were ranked as high as 20th in the country by the Nike/U.S. Lacrosse rankings. Six members of the team - Abby Nocito, Grace Kelleher, Diachynsky, DiPasquale, Hannah Jaskuta, and Dempsey - earned All-PSAC honors.

2018 saw the Huskies finish 10-8 and advance to the PSAC Tournament for the first time since 2015. The 10 victories marked the most by the program since the 2013 season and included a pair of wins over nationally-ranked opponents Millersville and Lock Haven. Three players - DiPasquale, Diachynsky, and Nocito - earned All-PSAC honors.

In 2017, Hertz posted her first winning season after guiding the Huskies to a 9-7 record. Brigid Kyne, Julia Stauffer, and DiPasquale earned All-PSAC accolades with Kyne, earning a nod for the fourth consecutive year. Kyne departed tied for ninth in career goals (136), tied for ninth in career assists (46), and tied for seventh in career points (182).

In her first season with the Huskies, Hertz led Bloomsburg to an 8-8 record and a berth in the PSAC playoffs. Two players, Julie Falk and Kyne, both earned All-PSAC honors. Among the team's eight wins was a road victory over 13th-ranked West Chester.

She came to Bloomsburg after three seasons as an assistant coach at the Catholic University of America. Previously, she spent two seasons as an assistant at her alma mater, Lock Haven University. In her three years at CUA, Hertz helped lead the Cardinals to 36 victories, two Landmark Conference championships, two NCAA Tournament appearances and a spot in the 2012 NCAA Regional Final. While coaching at Lock Haven, Hertz was named the 2009 IWLCA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year. She helped lead the Bald Eagles to a runner-up finish in the 2009 NCAA Tournament and a semifinal appearance in 2010 as they won back-to-back conference titles.

During her undergrad days, Hertz served as captain of the Lock Haven women's lacrosse team for three years. She was a three-time All-PSAC selection, including First-Team accolades in 2004-05.

In addition to playing lacrosse, Hertz was a member of the student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC).

Hertz attended Boyertown High School (Pa.) where she was the captain on the field hockey, basketball and lacrosse teams. She then graduated from Lock Haven in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in recreation management.

Hertz and her husband, Matthew, reside in Bloomsburg with their two sons, Jackson and Jayden.

I have used the Soccer in College site for 8 years, and it has helped me keep my personal and soccer information up to date, and has helped be track college contacts and interest. I think the site helped me prepare for college offers, and helped me determine that I wanted to play for UNC.
